Veterans looking to break into the high‑tech sector have a powerful opportunity on the horizon. The Department of Veterans Affairs has launched VET TEC 2.0, a revamped version of the original Veteran Employment Through Technology Education Courses program—designed to help Veterans and transitioning service members gain in‑demand technical skills and enter fast‑growing industries.
While the application is not yet available, the VA has confirmed that the VET TEC 2.0 application portal will officially open on 15 June 2026, and the program will accept only 4,000 approved applicants for the fiscal year. Veterans interested in applying should prepare early and monitor the VA.gov page closely.

What Is VET TEC 2.0?
VET TEC 2.0 is a high‑tech training initiative that helps eligible Veterans and active‑duty service members build skills for careers in:
- Computer programming
- Computer software
- Data processing
- Information sciences
- Media application
The program pays tuition and fees directly to the training provider, and participants also receive housing allowance, plus support for books and supplies. Unlike many VA education benefits, VET TEC 2.0 can be used even if you have exhausted your GI Bill or DEA entitlement.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for VET TEC 2.0, applicants must meet the following:
One of these must be true:
- You are a Veteran discharged under conditions other than dishonorable, or
- You are an active‑duty service member within 180 days of separation
And both of these must be true:
- You served at least 36 months on active duty
- You are under 62 years old at the time your application is approved
The program is capped at 4,000 paid participants per fiscal year, though Congress may adjust this number. With demand expected to be high, early application is essential.
Approved Training Providers
As of the latest VA update, the following schools have VET TEC 2.0‑approved programs:
- ICOHS College – San Diego, CA (distance learning available)
- ACI Learning Tech Academy – Colorado Springs, CO
- DSDT College Inc. – Detroit, MI (distance learning available)
- Great Horizons Career Centers – Charlotte, NC
- Intellectual Point – Sterling, VA
- Skillspire LLC – Bellevue, WA
More providers may be added as the program expands.
Monthly Verification Requirement
Participants must verify enrollment every month to continue receiving their housing allowance. This is similar to the Post‑9/11 GI Bill monthly verification process.
How VET TEC 2.0 Differs From the Original Program
VET TEC 2.0 is not the same as the previous VET TEC program. It has:
- New eligibility rules
- New entitlement rules
- A new application process
- New training provider approval requirements
Certificates of Eligibility from the old program cannot be used for VET TEC 2.0. Applicants must use the new application once it opens.
Why This Matters for Veterans
The tech industry continues to grow rapidly, and Veterans bring discipline, adaptability, and mission‑focused thinking—traits that translate exceptionally well into high‑tech roles. VET TEC 2.0 gives Veterans a chance to enter fields with strong salaries, remote‑work potential, and long‑term career stability.
